If you read last week’s blog, you discovered how to pick the perfect location for your engagement session. But, we can’t forget about props! Bring along a few props to show off and add some extra *pop* to your photos! Here are some ideas!
1. Hobby Item
Think back to when you took senior pictures in high school. Remember bringing along a guitar, sports gear, or a suitcase to highlight your hobby? That’s because these hobby items are the perfect way to show off your personality! Do the same for your engagement session, using items that you both enjoy together. How about a vintage car, motorcycle, books, or board game? The options are endless!
2. Signage
Chalkboards, wooden initials, a “Mr. & Mrs.” sign, and picture frames make great props. This is a chance for you DIY-ers to go crazy! Personalize these items yourself, or if you’re not the DIY-type, order custom-made signs! Photos with these props make great save-the-dates!
3. Celebratory Drink
Any get-together is incomplete without some refreshments, and the same is true with an engagement session! Sip on some champagne, get energized with a good ol’ cup of coffee, or enjoy some of your favorite craft beer!
4. Flower Bouquet
How gorgeous would your engagement ring look next to a wildflower bouquet or a dozen of your favorite flowers?! Show off that beautiful diamond, girl!
5. Pet
A favorite, although not always cooperative prop: four-legged friends! Grab Fido or Mr. Whiskers and bring them along!
Props are a great way to portray your relationship and personality. The engagement session is a great time to get comfortable with your photographer and learn how to pose together, but it’s also a great way for your photographer to get to know you, leading up to your wedding day. It’s a win-win for everyone! Have some fun, celebrate your love, and enjoy your engagement session with some “prop *pop*”!
[…] Props can be a big help especially if you suffer from “I don’t know what to do with my hands” syndrome! One of the biggest obstacles that many people face when they come to their portrait session is not knowing what to do with their hands. I mean they just sort of dangle there… Props help you feel more comfortable and relaxed and can create so much dimension and depth in your images! If you want to read some more about props, I have a blog post all about it – just click here! […]
