As much as I love photographing weddings there’s something equally special about capturing the love between a couple during their engagement session. There’s no hurry to rush from one place to the next, no pressure to make sure you’re capturing the right people at the right time. Instead, it’s just a moment between me and them where their true personalities—and love—can really shine through. And I cherish each of these special opportunities I’m given.
Most recently I got to spend a few beautiful hours with Allison and Geoff, a stunning couple who made their whole session so much fun. Just look at the smile on the faces of these two lovebirds! We had the best time taking in the gorgeous scenery at Princeton University, strolling around the campus to find the best places to capture their love on camera.
Their love story all began by chance. Allison was attending The College of New Jersey and had befriended two of Geoff’s friends from his hometown. When he came to visit them for a weekend they met at Chuck, a New Jersey restaurant, and Allison was immediately smitten. She confided in his friends that she thought he was cute—and they were more than happy to set them up. They began talking and grew close, finally making it official a few months later.
And their proposal story couldn’t be sweeter! It all began when Geoff told Allison about a new hiking spot they needed to try, so one day they packed up and headed out to High Point State Park in Sussex. After spending time taking in the views, they began snapping photos. Suddenly Geoff became insistent that someone else needed to take their photo.
(Yes, this is where the story gets really good!)
Not understanding what was happening Allison protested, but Geoff was able to hand his phone off to a sweet stranger to capture the whole thing. Then he took Allison completely by surprise when he dropped down to one knee and asked her to be his wife. She, of course, said yes! And, proving once again he’s got a few thoughtful tricks up his sleeve, Geoff continued the surprise by bringing Allison to her best friend’s house for a surprise engagement celebration with family and friends.
I don’t know about you, but hearing that story just made my heart melt! And I think it’s clear to anyone who sees them that they’re perfect for each other.
I am so honored they’ve chosen me to capture these special moments in their life, and I can’t wait for the big day to arrive. Their ceremony and reception are being held at the stunning Rock Island Lake Club, which will be a perfect spot for their wedding day.
