Hi, friends. I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about how do I get that Light and Airy look. There’s is honestly no secret to it but getting everything right in camera. When I first started shooting I was figuring out what I want my photos to look like. Do I want to fall on dark and moody or light and airy. I keep going back and forth for awhile but notices that I was editing more towards the bright side. I love the look of how clean and light it is.

I had to learn how to shoot in manual mode and shoot at the lowest ISO when i’m outdoor. I typically shoot f1.8-f4.0 depending on what I’m shooting. Once you set your ISO and your aperture, start playing with your shutter speed. When i’m out in an open field I normally start with 1800 shutter speed and test it if I need to go higher or lower. Once you get the hang of it you’ll notice that you’ll start to love your photos more and more. I know this isn’t really in depth of explanation but you get the idea. The 3 most important part you need to learn are those 3 settings and of course learning to shoot in manual mode.

What I love most is shooting in an even light, and having my subject backlit. Here’s a photo of what I mean.

Do you see my subject shadows? You always have to make sure that the sun is behind your subject and the shadow is ALWAYS in front of your subject.

These are just tiny tips you can use to practice. Lighting is very important. I will always choose a good lighting versus a good location. When your lighting is bad.. there’s no changing that.. No amount of editing can fix an image taken in poor lighting.

Being a wedding photographer we understand that we don’t always have the final say when it comes to wedding day timelines. You can do your part and educate clients when would be the best time of day of certain photos, ceremony, etc., but the decision is ultimately theirs and its up to you to accommodate them.

I hope this small tips and tricks will help you for your next shoot!
